Langley has one of the highest EV adoption rates in the Fraser Valley, concentrated heavily in newer Willoughby and Walnut Grove single-family neighbourhoods. The typical Langley install is straightforward: detached garage or attached garage with side-by-side parking, panel within 30 feet of the install location, no service upgrade needed. We do five to ten of these jobs a week through the spring and summer.
Most Langley EV charger installs land in one of three buckets. A NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50A circuit is the budget-friendly option — works with every Tesla mobile connector and most portable Level 2 chargers, costs the least, and is portable if you move. A hardwired 48A Tesla Wall Connector or ChargePoint Home Flex gives you faster charging (up to 11.5 kW) and a cleaner finish on the wall. For older Langley homes where the panel is on its last legs, we sometimes recommend bundling the EV charger install with a 100A to 200A service upgrade or panel replacement so the new EV circuit doesn't push the existing service into overload.
Every Langley EV charger install needs a Technical Safety BC permit — no exceptions, even for portable chargers if they're being fed from a hardwired circuit. We pull every permit, coordinate the inspection, and submit the BC Hydro EV Ready rebate paperwork on your behalf when you qualify (up to $350 back on the install).
Most Langley jobs are quoted within 24 hours, scheduled within the same week, and energized the same day as install. Inspection sign-off usually lands 3 to 5 business days later.
Every Langley ev charger installation includes
- Site visit or photo-based assessment of your panel and proposed install location
- Load calculation to confirm your existing service can support the new EV circuit
- 50A circuit run from panel to garage with appropriate conduit
- NEMA 14-50 outlet OR hardwired EV charger installation (Tesla, ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Grizzl-E)
- GFCI protection where required by current BC Electrical Code
- Technical Safety BC permit pulled, inspection coordinated
- BC Hydro EV Ready rebate paperwork submitted on your behalf
- Power-on and walkthrough of the charger app setup
$1,400 to $2,800 typical, before BC rebates
These are typical price ranges — exact pricing varies depending on your specific situation, and every Langley EV charger install gets a written quote before work starts. NEMA 14-50 outlets within 15 feet of the panel are at the low end. Hardwired wall chargers, long conduit runs across the garage, or installs requiring panel breaker rearrangement land toward the high end. The BC Hydro EV Ready Bonus rebate (up to $350) and Federal Greener Homes financing options bring the effective cost down further when you qualify — we submit the rebate paperwork on your behalf.
The Langley permit process
Every Level 2 EV charger install in BC requires a Technical Safety BC electrical permit pulled by an FSR-licensed electrician. There are no exceptions — even portable Level 2 chargers fed from a dedicated hardwired circuit need a permit on the circuit work. We pull every permit, coordinate the inspection (typically 3 to 5 business days after install), and forward the sign-off to you. Langley Township is not involved in the electrical permit itself — only TSBC.
Langley ev charger installation FAQs
- Often no. Many 100A Langley homes can support a 32A or 40A EV charger without any service upgrade, as long as the existing electric load (range, water heater, dryer, HVAC) leaves enough headroom under BC Electrical Code Section 8. We run a load calculation before quoting. If you're in an older Brookswood or Murrayville home with electric heat and an electric range, 200A is more often needed. Newer Willoughby and Walnut Grove builds are usually 200A already.
- Yes. Tesla Wall Connectors ship with a J1772 adapter that lets non-Tesla EVs charge at full speed. The hardware is universally compatible. The catch is the Tesla app — only Tesla owners get the in-app energy monitoring features. If you want app monitoring as a non-Tesla owner, the ChargePoint Home Flex is the better pick.
- Up to $350 toward the install cost when you meet the criteria (single-family residential, Level 2 charger, ENERGY STAR certified or compliant with the BC list, and the install includes panel work or a new circuit). The rebate is paid out to you after the install is signed off. We submit the paperwork on your behalf at the same time we submit the TSBC inspection request. Combined with federal incentives on the vehicle itself, this can bring real out-of-pocket costs to under $1,000 for the right home.
- The on-site install is usually 3 to 5 hours for a standard Langley job — panel work, conduit run, charger mounting, power-on. The full timeline from quote to charging your car is 3 to 7 days, with most of that being permit scheduling and inspection booking. Emergency or expedited installs are sometimes possible — call us if you've just taken delivery and need it fast.
- Depends on your service amperage and how fast you want to charge. 32A (7.7 kW) gives about 30 km of range per hour and works on every 100A service. 40A (9.6 kW) gives 40 km per hour and works on 100A services with low other-loads. 48A (11.5 kW) requires 200A service and gives 48 km per hour — fastest Level 2 charging available residentially. For most Langley owners, 40A on a 50A circuit is the sweet spot.
- Langley has fewer townhome complexes than Surrey but they do exist (Walnut Grove, Willoughby). Townhome EV installs require strata board approval before we can pull the permit, plus a 50A circuit from the building's shared electrical room or from your unit's panel — depending on the building. We've done both and can quote either path once we see the building.
